What is Neurodevelopment?
Neurodevelopment refers to the growth and development of the brain. Various factors can influence this process, and sometimes this process can lead to neurodevelopmental conditions.
Examples of neurodevelopmental conditions include:
- ADHD
- Autism
- Motor Dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder, DCD)
- Specific learning difficulties
These conditions are lifelong and can affect individuals to varying degrees. Additionally, many of these conditions often overlap, making each child's situation unique and complex.
With this in mind, here at Ghosh Medical Group we take a holistic approach to the Neurodevelopmental care we provide, and services we offer, to ensure we are giving each child bespoke treatment that is centred solely around them and their needs.
We urge all families to bare in mind that diagnosis of neurodevelopmental conditions is a remarkably complex process, with this in mind we advise all parents to enquire for a call-back where our well-informed Ghosh Medical team will provide the very best advice regarding appointments, testing, and the general process best suited for you and your child's needs.
Services and Assessments
The following paediatric services are intended for any child from birth to 18 years of age:
ADHD Services
ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Officially, ADHD is recognised to have three core characteristics, inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity, although in reality it is a lot more complex and broad than this may suggest. ADHD is a spectrum of traits and there are many variables and complexities and every child with ADHD is different.
Ghosh Medical Group offer a range of ADHD assessments, tests, packages and reviews for all individual cases provided by the vastly experienced Paediatric Consultant Dr Rashad Nawaz.

Autism Services
Autism, known medically as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) refers to a wide range of conditions affecting an individual's social skills, ability to communicate (both verbal and non-verbal), and behavioural or learning development.
Our Autism Screening Assessment takes into account a child's full neurodevelopmental history, including a physical examination, review of school reports, and scoring of relevant autism questionnaires. It should be noted this is not a formal diagnostic assessment, but to indicate whether autism is a likely diagnosis or not, and upon which a formal diagnostic assessment could be recommended.

Motor Dyspraxia Services
Also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder, Motor Dyspraxia is a developmental condition that causes challenges with movement and co-ordination.
A thorough and accurate diagnosis for Motor Dyspraxia requires a range of assessments from specialists in different fields. As well as assessments from a Physiotherapist, Psychologist, and Speech and Language Therapist, an assessment from an experienced neurodevelopmental Paediatrician will also be required.
Our resident Consultant Paediatrician Dr Nawaz offers a one-stop assessment that includes a full neurodevelopmental history, physical examination, and motor assessment. To find out more about this service, visit our motor dyspraxia page below.

Diagnosis Process
1. Understanding Diagnosis: A neurodevelopmental diagnosis is a way to describe and identify a child's difficulties. There is no single test that can pinpoint the cause, so our assessments rely on careful clinical judgment. Some children may not fit neatly into a specific category, presenting a complex puzzle we aim to understand.
2. Purpose of Diagnosis: A diagnosis won't change your child's behavior but can provide clarity and help you support them more effectively. Whether or not a diagnosis is given, our goal is to help you understand your child's needs better.
3. Post-Assessment Steps: After the assessment, there might not be a need for ongoing involvement from our team. If necessary, we will refer you to appropriate services or teams for further support. Many children are discharged if no further medical intervention is required.
