Ghosh Medical Group Are Now Fully Licensed To Provide Medical Cannabis Through Our In Clinic Pharmacy

What Is Medical Cannabis?

Medical Cannabis is a term used to describe any medicines containing derivatives of the Cannabis Sativa plant used to relieve symptoms. The plant contains over 100 chemicals called Cannabinoids,  of which Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two main chemicals used in medicine. Research suggests that these chemicals are similar to those produced by the body for things like appetite, memory, movement and pain.

CBD is typically associated with the relaxing and soothing effect of cannabis, whereas THC is the psychoactive substance. Since not all medicinal cannabis contains no THC, you shouldn't need to worry about some of the side effects typically associated with cannabis, such as paranoia.

Why Choose Medical Cannabis?

As it has only recently been made its way to the UK, cannabis based medicine naturally raises many questions among patients. The use of cannabis for neurological conditions is a move towards a more holistic approach to medicine, and can be used to treat a variety of symptoms.

We understand how debilitating many conditions can be, and that's why our cannabis treatment options exist so you can go back to doing what you love, whether that's walking your dog on the beach, playing with your children pain free or managing the stresses of a hectic and busy life.

Symptoms can include, but are not limited to:

  • Chronic or Nerve Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Refractory Epilepsy
  • Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting
  • Insomnia
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Cachexia
  • Spasticity
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Medical Cannabis FAQs

As cannabis and alternative medicines are relatively new to the UK medical scene, many people have questions surrounding their use. Don't hesitate to contact our team if you have any more questions.

What Are The Cannabis Regulations In The UK?

While cannabis is illegal for recreational use, it is fully legal to both have and use cannabis as long as it is prescribed. We will give you a card to carry on your person in case you are stopped while in possession of your prescription to prove it is not for recreational use.

Am I Suitable For Medical Cannabis?

As with any prescription medicine, cannabis based therapies aren't suitable for everyone. To start with, you must be displaying symptoms which could be treated by medical cannabis, and you must not be using cannabis recreationally. Conditions such as schizophrenia, psychosis or an extreme disposition to heart conditions may also exclude you from cannabis prescriptions at our Liverpool, Manchester and Chester clinics.

What If I Don't Want To Smoke Cannabis?

If you have any respiratory conditions, or simply do not want to smoke your medical cannabis, that isn't a problem. Smoking is only one cannabis treatment option, and it be vapourised, or delivered orally as an oil or edible. For example, CBD oils and muscle rubs are a popular way of delivering cannabis for chronic conditions. Let our specialist consultants know if you do not want to smoke your prescription.
