After completing higher specialist training in the Mersey Deanery, Dr Haris Ahmed has worked as a consultant for over 8 years, amassing valuable clinical experience in the management of a variety of endocrine and general medicine disorders.
Dr Haris Ahmed has written several guidelines and pathways to patient management, has presented papers in national and international conferences, and has several publications in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition, he has been a consultant representative in the West Cheshire Area Prescribing Committee (APC) panel, and has also worked towards introducing new medicines and technologies for the benefit of his patients' health.
Throughout an extensive clinical career, Dr Haris Ahmed has amassed well over 50,000 patient-hours experience, with patients with endocrine and general medicine disorders, both in the outpatient and inpatient setting since achieving CCT. This has led to a comprehensive understanding of disease pathophysiology and an enhanced ability to unravel challenging disease patterns, and suggest suitable solutions.
Dr Haris Ahmed successfully pioneered the use of Skype technology to improve antenatal patient care and experience, over 2 years before the onset of COVID-19. For this initiative, his team was awarded the Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Award 2019 for the category Patient Care Pathway-Adults- ‘Telemedicine in Improving Care and Outcomes, in Antenatal Diabetes Patients’.
Notably, Dr Haris Ahmed has received an award for Outstanding Patient Care at Countess of Chester hospital in June 2016, and was also the Trust Fluid champion at the Countess, having launched the Trust IV Fluid Policy in 2019.
In addition to clinical work, Dr Haris Ahmed also holds the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Liverpool. In this role, he supports the University in delivering small group learning, such as case-based learning (CBL), Communications for Clinical Practice (CCP), debrief, simulation exercises, research and academic supervision of students.
Dr Haris Ahmed believes in providing personalised care to his patients, as he values the principles of shared decision making, empowering patients for self-care by sharing knowledge, and providing support/care in keeping with the needs, preferences and circumstances of the individual.
