Dr Haytham Salem

Dr Haytham Salem is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (FFSEM) and has a diploma in MSK Medicine (DFSEM), MSK Ultrasound Diagnostics and Advanced Guided Injections (PGCert MSK U/S)

Dr Haytham Salem is a GP with a special interest in Sports Medicine & corporate wellness and the co-founder and Medical Director of HH Sports Group.

A former professional football player, Dr Salem started his medical career in Egypt specialising in Trauma and Orthopaedics, in addition to practicing as a Sports Medicine Doctor.  For over 6 years, Dr Salem worked within Sports insurance in the Middle East and is currently a Premier League team Doctor. 

Dr Salem enrolled in medical school in Cairo in 1999, after getting away with a potentially career ending head injury. It was this injury that made Dr Salem realise he could help people in sports, graduating in the top 10 of over 1,000 students in his year group. 

Dr Salem then moved into orthopaedics for a few years, working in Cairo and Berlin, until he received an offer he couldn't refuse: working with top Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. While at Al Hilal, Dr Salem spent time with Real Madrid, learning everything he could about sports medicine, before making the next big step in his career. Dr Salem became a GP and the club doctor for an established premier league club, a role he still holds to this day. 

But what advice would Dr Salem give to those of us who aren't Premier League footballers, just amateur sportspeople or those trying to stay healthy? '"Be aware of the chair" is something that I'm trying to deliver to the people I might see day to day. Try to be active, try to be healthy, try to get some regular exercise into your daily routine and not just stick to your desk and your computer screen.'
