passion in this area is rooted in her personal breastfeeding journey with her two children. Theo was born with a tongue tie, leading to latch difficulties and colic. Unfortunately, his tongue tie wasn't diagnosed until he was 10 weeks old, with an additional 6-week wait for treatment. Zaine also faced challenges, having a tongue tie and a cleft palate. Despite the obstacles, Michelle was determined to provide her boys with the nutrition she believed in and breastfed both of them until they were 5 years old.
In 2014, Michelle made the decision to train as a Frenulotomy Practitioner to support new mothers with similar experiences. She received her training at Southampton General Hospital and subsequently established a tongue tie service within a case-loading midwifery team. Since then, she has been assessing and treating babies with tongue ties.
Michelle is particularly passionate about empowering and educating women and their families. She firmly believes that pregnancy and childbirth are significant yet natural events, and she recognises that many expectant mothers and birthing partners may feel unsupported and uninformed. She derives immense satisfaction from dedicating time to listen to their needs and providing comprehensive education and essential skills, honed through training in hypnobirthing and active birth. This approach aims to boost confidence for labour, birth, and the journey into parenthood.
Outside of her midwife role, Michelle resides on the Wirral with her two teenage boys, Theo and Zaine, who hold a special place in her heart. She also shares her life with her scruffy dog, Rodger. Michelle has a deep appreciation for spending time outdoors, relishing walks in the local parks and beaches, and maintaining an active lifestyle. Cooking is a particular joy, and she highly values the quality time spent with her friends.
