Arthrosamid® Knee Injections: Long-Lasting Relief Without Surgery at Ghosh Medical Group
Knee pain from osteoarthritis can limit everyday life, but new treatment options are helping patients stay active for longer. We spoke with Dr Arun Ghosh, private GP and founder of Ghosh Medical Group, about Arthrosamid® — a next-generation injection therapy offering long-lasting relief for knee arthritis.
Interviewer: Dr Ghosh, we’ve been hearing a lot about Arthrosamid injections for knee pain. What exactly is it?
Dr Arun Ghosh: Arthrosamid is an innovative, long-lasting injectable treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee. It’s not a steroid or a hyaluronic acid gel; it’s a soft hydrogel that integrates into the lining of the joint, cushioning movement and dampening inflammation.
Think of it as giving the knee a smoother surface to glide on, rather than just masking pain.
1. It’s not a “quick fix” injection
Many people assume it works like a steroid / cortisone shot — fast but short-lived. In fact Arthrosamid takes a few weeks to achieve full effect. Once settled, however, the benefits can last years rather than months.
2. It helps the joint, not just the pain
The hydrogel becomes part of the joint lining. Patients often notice improved flexibility, less catching and reduced stiffness — addressing the mechanical aspects of the joint, not just the symptoms of pain and allows patients to do the activities they love. I have a 77yr old patient still playing walking football after these injections.
3. The ideal patient isn’t necessarily elderly
We use it for adults who have moderate wear and tear (usually grade II–III arthritis). You don’t need to be near a knee replacement to benefit. Many of my patients are active in their forties to sixties — builders, teachers, golfers — people who need to keep moving.
4. It can delay or even avoid surgery
For some, it buys valuable time before joint replacement. Others find the relief so good they simply never progress to surgery.
5. It’s performed under local anaesthetic
The injection is quick — about 10 minutes — done with ultrasound guidance. Patients walk out afterwards. There’s minimal downtime.
6. It’s different from hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid (gel injections) are absorbed by the body in a few months. Arthrosamid stays put and integrates into the joint, which is why the effect can last up to two years or more.
7. There’s virtually no systemic side-effect
It’s non-biodegradable and non-toxic. That makes it suitable for people who can’t take steroids, anti inflammatories, or have diabetes, where steroid injections may be problematic.
8. Recovery is gentle
A little swelling or warmth for a few days is normal. Most people can resume light activity within 48 hours. Full benefit tends to appear gradually over 6–12 weeks.
9. It can be combined with lifestyle improvements
Strengthening the quadriceps, keeping weight down, and avoiding repetitive impact help Arthrosamid last even longer. It’s part of a whole-joint strategy, not a stand-alone cure.
10. Expert assessment is vital
It’s important to ensure the pain is truly from osteoarthritis and not, say, a torn meniscus or referred hip pain. A thorough assessment, X-ray, or MRI ensures we’re treating the right problem with the right method.
Interviewer: So in summary, who’s the perfect candidate?
Dr Arun Ghosh: Someone with persistent knee pain from moderate arthritis, who’s tried physiotherapy or gel injections and wants a longer-term, low-risk option — particularly if they want to stay active and delay surgery.
Interviewer: Any final myth to dispel?
Dr Arun Ghosh: Yes — it’s not experimental. Arthrosamid has robust clinical data and CE approval. We’ve been using it in private practice for several years with excellent outcomes and patient satisfaction.
