What is Profhilo?
The first of its kind, Profhilo® is a revolutionary ‘beneath the skin’ hyaluronic acid moisturising treatment, made with the patented NAHYCO® technology. This results in a unique hyaluronic acid injectable gel, which has a prolonged stimulating activity on the dermal cells. When injected into skin, Profhilo stimulates the skin cell receptors to counteract skin laxity and improve and restore firmness of the skin.
One of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market, Profhilo not only boosts and hydrates the skin, but also remodels ageing and sagging tissue. The most common areas of treatment include the face and neck and can also be used for the décolletage, hands, arms, knees and abdomen area where it would effectively treat skin laxity. The treatment is suitable for men and women as well as offering skin benefits for patients of all ages.
How does Profhilo work?
Ultra-pure hyaluronic acid is precisely injected into the area being treated. Unlike wrinkle reducing and dermal filler treatments, Profhilo stimulates collagen and elastin, attracting water in the deeper layers of the skin.
As a stabilised product, the activity on dermal cells will last longer than that of a non-stabilised gel. During this time the stimulation of four different types of collagen and elastin takes place by slow release of hyaluronic acid.
The stimulation results in significant tissue improvement. Therefore we cannot say that Profhilo is a skin booster as it also has a significant tightening / lifting effect on the tissue.
Before and Afters
When will you see results of Profhilo treatment?
For better and longer-lasting results it is recommended that you have two Profhilo treatments, four weeks apart from each other. After treatment, the improvements to the overall quality of your skin, as well as the lifting and tightening effect should develop subtly over a few weeks.
Whilst you might see an improvement straight away after the first treatment, the best results are visible usually about 4 weeks after the second treatment. After 8 weeks, your skin will look more hydrated, healthy, and youthful.
What are the benefits of Profhilo?
Profhilo doesn’t just give a boost of hydration, it is also said to ‘bio-remodel’ the skin, actually lifting it to create an amazingly rejuvenated effect. Profhilo achieves this by stimulating collagen and elastin, which are responsible for the elasticity and firmness of the skin.
How long do the results last?
The increased firmness, elasticity, and general quality of your skin after treatment should last up to 6 months.
Are there any side effects to Profhilo treatment?
Like with any injection treatment, minor risks or side effects are possible. These can include bruising, swelling, allergic reaction, infection, and nerve damage.
However, with a procedure involving less injection points and a more biocompatible product, Profhilo has worked on minimising the downtime after the treatment. Straight after the injection, you will be able to feel the product, but it will begin to diffuse quickly and feel softer by the next day.
Any slight bruising or swelling should disappear after a short time, but we do advise after treatment you adhere to the following:
- Avoid strenuous physical exercise for 24 hours
- Don’t have any other cosmetic treatments or procedures for 48 hours
- Don’t have a steamy bath or sauna for the first few days
- Stay away from intense sun or UV light exposure if you experience bruising or prolonged swelling
Is Botox the same as fillers and Profhilo?
A common misconception is that Botox works in the same way as fillers and Profhilo, however it is actually a very different treatment. While fillers and Profhilo help to plump up and rejuvenate skin as well as fill certain areas to regain volume loss, Botox functions by temporarily blocking the signals between the muscles and the neurotransmitters that send signals to our brain, so the formation of lines and wrinkles is halted.
Is Profhilo better than fillers?
Neither treatment is better than the other as each option provides different approaches, so there will likely be one treatment that works best for your skin and your desired outcomes. Profhilo will help to hydrate your skin and give an overall fresh appearance, whereas dermal fillers are generally administered in particular areas (such as cheek, jawline, chin, and nose) to redefine and sculpt your facial structure. In general, if you would like to achieve a more holistic result that can be seen across your face, then Profhilo is the best treatment for you.
